Serving within 40 miles of Ellijay
North Georgia Driveways is based in Ellijay, GA and specializes in gravel driveway restoration, repair, and installation for homeowners, small farms, and rural landowners across a 40-mile radius — serving Gilmer County, Pickens County, Fannin County, and the surrounding mountain communities. Gravel driveways in the North Georgia mountains take a beating — heavy rain, steep grades, and freeze-thaw cycles eat away at the surface, wash out the base, and leave you with ruts, soft spots, and gravel that seems to disappear every season. Whether you need a neglected lane restored, a washed-out drive regraded and topped off, or a brand new driveway cut in from the road, we bring the right equipment and real hands-on experience to get it done right. Local, owner-operated, and no subcontractors — ever.
Gravel Restoration Common Questions
Question: What is the best type of gravel for Georgia restoration?
-
Answer: For the base, use "crush and run" (or road bond) because it compacts well to prevent potholes. For the top surface, #57 or #78 wash stone works well, but it should not be used as the base because it does not pack well. We also use which we fell is the best Fancy Base Gravel.
Question: Why does my driveway wash out even after filling potholes?
-
Answer: Washouts are a drainage issue, not just a surface issue. Simply filling potholes won't stop water from rushing down the center. You need to address the root cause, such as a lost crown or poor drainage, which allows water to travel down the path of least resistance
Question: Do I need a culvert pipe?
-
Answer: If your driveway crosses a ditch or drainage area, a culvert pipe is absolutely necessary to allow water to pass underneath and prevent washing out your entrance
